Adjiri Odametey

EARLY | SHOWBEGINN: 14.00 P.M.

ADJIRI ODAMETEY

CROSSOVER MUSIC FROM GHANA

A warm and earthy voice is the trademark of Ghanaian singer and songwriter Adjiri Odametey. This voice combined with native instruments such as the kora, kalimba, balafon and mbira captivates listeners. The Süddeutsche Zeitung writes: "An ambassador of authentic African music, Adjiri has effortless success as a crossover artist." He will be accompanied by four other musicians at the concert.

LATE | SHOWBEGINN: 8.00 p.m.

AWA LY

SENGALESE JAZZ, SOUL AND FOLK ROOTS

Born in Paris to Senegalese parents, she has long since found her new home in Italy. Musically, however, she has always remained true to her West African roots. At a meeting in Dakar in 2016, she wrote and sang "Here" together with Faada Freddy from Daara J Family - an impressive song about the fate of boat refugees in the Mediterranean. Otherwise, she is a versatile exceptional artist who has also acted as an actress in various films on the side, such as "Black And White" (2008). In 2017, her first solo album "Five And A Feather" was released. This time she will also present songs from her new, current CD "Safe and Sound", among others. We can expect an exciting musical journey in which the boundaries of African folk roots merge with modern jazz, soul and Afro pop.

Now he has teamed up with guitarist Djely Kouyaté from Guinea, who also has an excellent command of traditional instruments such as the balafon or kalimba and has already worked with Aicha Kouyaté and Seyni & Yeliba. We are expecting a special premiere!

AMI & WALLY WARNING feat. SPECIAL GUESTS

GOOD VIBES WITH CARIBBEAN ROOTS

Ami and her father Wally Warning are a well-rehearsed team, whether in the family sphere or on the concert stages. With the vibes and roots of the Caribbean island of Aruba in their blood and in their hearts, they have been delighting their audiences for years, whether as solo artists with their projects or, as this time in an Africa Festival Special, as a duo. Their musical spectrum ranges from reggae and soul to soulful songs performed in German. This time, we can also look forward to exciting "special guests" to support us on our 'Open Stage'.

Weine Südafrika

WINES FROM SOUTH AFRICA

This year we will again be presenting exquisite wines for connoisseurs. We have invited 3 wineries from South Africa - Thandi, Cape Dreams and Africa Terroir from the Cape region - to present their wines. The wineries are special in that they respect the rights of their black employees and enable them to have a better life through participation. Thandi, for example, has been producing the world's first Fairtrade-certified wines since 2003. All the companies produce wines of the highest quality. In support of the new South Africa, the Africa Festival sells red, rose and white wines and sparkling wine. Wine tastings are held daily at 7.00 p.m. at the wine tent.

PHOTO EXHIBITIONS FOR SALE!

The Africa Festival has always presented exhibitions, some of them by famous photographers. Now it is time to reduce our stock and sell some of the photo exhibitions for a good cause. The proceeds will go to the Africa Festival Foundation, which will use them to support the A. B. Jobarteh School of Music in Gambia and the Mama Afrika School in Guinea. Both projects were founded by African women. Afro Project supports these two institutions because we believe that education in Africa is the best weapon against ignorance, intolerance and poverty.

The pictures are sold daily to the highest bidder by our popular storyteller Ibu.
