liebe Freundinnen und Freunde des Internationalen Africa Festivals,

Das Online-Voting des Africa Festivals ist entschieden: Klarer Favorit in der Publikumsgunst ist der senegalesische Superstar Youssou N'Dour, der Platz eins belegte. Die Veranstalter des Africa Festivals hatten auf ihrer Website danach gefragt, welcher Künstler in den letzten 19 Jahren die Besucher am nachhaltigsten beeindruckt hatte. Aus der Top Ten des Votings sollen Künstler zum nächsten Festival eingeladen werden. Auf Platz zwei kam der Reggaesänger Alpha Blondy von der Elfenbeinküste, Platz drei teilen sich wegen Stimmengleichheit Angelique Kidjo aus Benin und Habib Koite aus Mali. Salif Keita erreichte den fünften Platz, gefolgt von den Otentikk Street Brothers (da hatte wohl ein Fanclub seine Finger im Spiel).

"Mama Afrika" Miriam Makeba startete außer Konkurrenz, da sie   inzwischen ihre Karriere beendet hat, und nicht mehr zu einem kommenden Festival eingeladen werden kann. Der vor kurzem verstorbene Lucky Dube brachte es auf den 8 Platz.

Die Veranstalter des Festivals sind gerade dabei, das Programm für das 20. Jubiläums-Festival zusammenzustellen. Eines kann schon jetzt verraten werden: Ein Teil des   Ergebnisses des Online-Votings soll sich im Line Up für das kommende Festival widerspiegeln. Lassen Sie sich also überraschen, mit welchen Künstlern aus der Top Ten es im nächsten Jahr ein Wiedersehen geben wird. Einzelheiten über die vom 22. bis 25. Mai 2008 in Würzburg auftretenden Künstler werden Anfang Dezember bekannt gegeben. Dann wird auch der Kartenvorverkauf für das 20. Africa Festival beginnen.

Dear friends of the International Africa Festival,

The results of the online voting system of the Africa Festival are now available: Senegalese superstar Youssou N'Dour was the heavy favourite who came in first. The organisers of the Africa Festivals asked the visitors to their website which artist had left the deepest impression on them during the past 19 years. Some of the top ten artists of the voting will be invited to the next festival. Reggae singer Alpha Blondy from Ivory Coast came in second. Due to equal votes, Angelique Kidjo from Benin and Habib Koite from Mali have to share the third place. Salif Keita came in fifth, followed by the Otentikk Street Brothers (a fan club obviously had a finger in that pie). "Mama Africa" Miriam Makeba was non-competitive because she already finished her career and can therefore not be invited to the coming year's festival. The late Lucky Dube came in eighth.

The festival organisers are just about to arrange the programme of the 20 th Anniversary Festival. We can already let you know that some of the results of the online voting system will be reflected in the coming year's festival line-up. Wait and see which top ten artists you will meet again next year! In December we will provide you with details on the artists performing from 22 May until 25 May 2008 in Würzburg. Advance ticket booking for the 20 th Africa Festival opens in December, too.

Next week the winners of the tickets for the opening day of the festival will be drawn by lot and informed. The tickets will be sent to them in early December.
