fro Project ist eine Arbeitsgemeinschaft, die sich zum Ziel gesetzt hat, die Musik und die Kultur Afrikas einem breiten Publikum näherzubringen.

Um den kulturellen Austausch zu fördern, arbeitet Afro Project mit verschiedenen afrikanischen Botschaften, dem Auswärtigen Amt der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, dem Bayerischen Staatsministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst, der Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung, der Initiative Südliches Afrika der Deutschen Wirtschaft, der Stadt Würzburg und zahlreichen afrikanischen Künstlern und Musikern zusammen.

Afro Project organisiert Ausstellungen, Workshops und Konzerte, um damit den Reichtum afrikanischer Kultur zu vermitteln.

1989 fand das 1. Africa Festival statt, an dem Besucher und Künstler aus 32 Nationen teilnahmen. Seitdem spielten über 2800 Musiker aus Nord-, Süd-, Ost- und Westafrika in Würzburg. Von der Deutschen Welle gedrehte Filme über diese Veranstaltung wurden von Fernsehanstalten in Amerika, Afrika und der Karibik ausgestrahlt. Auch die nationale und internationale Presse berichtete regelmäßig und ausführlich über das Festival.

Seit mehreren Jahren kooperiert Afro Project mit verschiedenen Organisationen in Afrika. In Jahre 2000 und 2001 unterstützte Afro Project Youssou N'Dours Festival DK24 in Dakar. 2003 und 2004 bestand eine Kooperation mit dem Tuareg Festival "Festival au Desert" das in Timbuktu (Mali) stattfand. Seit 2002 besteht eine Kooperation mit dem Anti-Aids Project "Steps for the Future" aus Südafrika. Im Februar 2006 hat Afro Project diesem Projekt  1.000.000 Kondome übergeben. 2007 brachte Afro Project einen Merzedes-Transporter nach Südafrika, damit das "Steps for the Future"-Projekt seine Aufklärungsarbeit und das Verteilen der Kondome im südlichen Afrika verwirklichen kann.
Afro Project vergab auch in diesem Jahr wieder den Africa Festival Award (AFA2007).

Afro Project ist eine Non-Profit-Organisation und politisch unabhängig.

In order to support the cultural exchange, the Afro Project cooperates with various African embassies, the European Union, the German Foreign Office, the Bavarian Ministry of Science and Art, the Initiative for Southern Africa of German Business (SAFRI), the cultural office of the city of Wuerzburg and many African artists and musicians.

The Afro Project organizes exhibitions, workshops and concerts and thus propagates the riches of African culture.

The first Africa Festival took place in 1989 and visitors and artist from 32 nations took part. Since then over 2,800 musicians from North, South, East and West Africa performed live on stage at the festival in Wuerzburg. Movies produced by the German international TV channel Deutsche Welle were broadcasted by television companies in America, Africa and the Caribbean. National and international Press reported regularly and in detail about the festival.

Since several years, the Afro Project has been cooperating with various African organizations. In the years 2000 and 2001, the Afro Project supported Youssou N'Dour's festival DK24 in Dakar. In 2003 and 2004, there was a cooperation with the Tuareg festival "Festival au Desert" in Timbuktu, Mali. Since 2002, the Afro Project has been cooperating with the South African Aids Project "Steps for the Future". In the year 2006, the Afro Project donated 1'000'000 condoms to this project. 2007 Afro Project handed over a Mercedes van to the anti-aids initiative. Now they are able to reach people in remote villages.

Again this year, the Afro Project awards the Africa Festival Award to outstanding artists and important initiatives in Africa.
