Ihre expressive und sinnliche schwarze Latinstimme steht dabei im Vordergrund. „Bastardista” hieß ihre letzte CD, über die Kritiker sehr treffend schrieben: „Tropicalismo war vorgestern, Musica Populeira Brazil war gestern, Brazilectro war bis vorhin, ab jetzt muss es Bastardismo heißen.”

The Brazilian singer, composer, and guitar player Célia Mara blends urban grooves, some ethno-jazz, a little electropop, some rock and funk with full Brazilian power. The main focus is always on her expressive and sensual black Latin voice. Her latest CD was titled “Bastardista”, and a critic rightly wrote: “Tropicalismo was the day before yesterday, Musica Populeira Brazil was yesterday, Brazilectro was a moment ago, but now's the time for Bastardism.”

Der Sänger und Gitarrist Andy Palacio stammt aus Belize, einem kleinen Staat auf dem zentralamerikanischen Festland gegenüber von Jamaica. Er ist der führende Interpret des   Garifuna-Stils, einem afro-karibischen Musikstil, der im 17. Jahrhundert in Belize entstand, nachdem dort mehrer Sklavenschiffe vor der Küste sanken und die überlebenden Westafrikaner in Belize heimisch wurden. Seine Lieder sind tief in der traditionellen Garifuna-Rhythmik verwurzelt, die er mit seinem virtuosem Gitarrenspiel untermalt. Sein aktuelles Album „Watina” wird von der Kritik überschwänglich gelobt.

The singer and guitarist Andy Palacio is from Belize, a small country in the western Caribbean on the coast of Central America; opposite to Jamaica. He is the leading interpreter of the Garifuna style, an Afro-Caribbean music style that originated in Belize in the 17th century after several slave ships had sunk offshore and the surviving West Africans settled down in Belize. Palacio's songs are deeply rooted in traditional Garifuna rhythms, accompanied with virtuosic guitar music. His latest album “Watina” has been highly praised by critics.

Die neun Musiker aus Sao Paulo haben in den letzten Jahren ein Revival des Samba-Rock eingeleitet. Die beliebte brasilianische Tanzmusik mit Elementen aus Jazz, Rock, Soul und traditionellen Samba-Beats lag viele Jahre im Dornröschenschlaf, ehe Clube do Balanço kam und damit wieder die Tanzsäle füllte. Heute gelten die Musiker als Könige des Samba-Rock, mit dem sie bei ihren Konzerten Tausende auf die (Tanz-)Beine bringen.

Some years ago, the nine musicians from Sao Paulo initiated a revival of the samba rock. The popular Brazilian dance music with elements from jazz, rock, soul, and traditional samba beats had sunk into oblivion until Clube do Balanco came and filled the ballrooms again. Today, the musicians are regarded as the kings of samba rock, making thousands of people dance on their concerts.
