This year, a country will be in the centre of attention that is famous for its music and love of life all over the world: Brazil. Who wouldn't know the colourful samba groups to be seen on TV every year? However, apart from music, love of life and the special flair of the Brazilian Carnival, we ought not to forget how this music came to Brazil. Millions of African slaves were transported to Brazil under cruel circumstances, bringing along their rhythms and melodies. We should remember that when applauding the stars of Brazilian music today. Various kinds of Brazilian music are being played on the two first days of the Africa Festival. Afterwards, you are invited to come along on a musical journey through the African continent. Meet bands and musicians from Guinea, Senegal, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, the Capverdian Islands, Mauritius, and Reunion! Look forward to numerous promising young musicians, many of whom make their first appearances in Germany! At the end of the festival, we would like to introduce a new country on Africa's musical map: "Reggae from Germany ". We have asked some of the most interesting talents of Germany's reggae scene to give a remarkable concert. Afterwards, you will know: Excellent reggae riddims do not necessarily come from Jamaica. A glance into the future: Next year, we will be celebrating the 20th Africa Festival. We would like to do that together with numerous stars of the African scene. We are already planning some surprises. Look forward to many well-known faces and to exceptional music. But first, this year's motto is: Viva Brasil! |
