Erstmalig in Europa zu sehen sind die Fotografien, die bei der Ausstellung "Afro-Brasil - Fotos afrikanische Sklaven in Brasilien" im Spitäle an der Alten Mainbrücke gezeigt werden. Die Bilder stammen aus dem Leibnitz Institut für Länderkunde Leipzig und dem Instituto Moreira Salle, Rio de Janeiro. Schon in der Frühzeit der Fotografie wurden in Brasilien Fotostudios eingerichtet, in denen auch Fotografen aus Deutschland tätig waren. Die Bilder der afrikanischen Sklaven in Brasilien sind eine absolute Rarität, wurden doch die schwarzen Bewohner nur selten im Bild festgehalten. Die Fotos zeigen Porträts, aber auch Alltagsszenen der afrikanischen Sklaven in Brasilien. Bilder von der Arbeit auf den Zuckerrohrfeldern, bei der Kaffeeernte oder der Gold- und Diamantensuche lassen ein dunkles Kapitel der Kolonisierung noch einmal lebendig werden. Nach der Würzburger Premiere wird die Ausstellung in der Slave Lodge in Kapstadt gezeigt. Die Ausstellung ist vom 12. Mai bis 3. Juni im Spitäle, Zellerstr. 1 in Würzburg zu sehen. Täglich (außer Montag) von 11.00 bis 18.00 Uhr. Der Eintritt zur Ausstellung beträgt 3,00 Euro.

Photographs shown in the exhibition "Afro-Brazil - Photographs of African Slaves in Brazil" in the Gallery "Spitäle" near the "Alte Mainbrücke" in Würzburg can be seen for the first time in Europe. The photographs are from the Leibnitz Institute (Leipzig) and the Instituto Moreira Salle, Rio de Janeiro. Photo studios were already set up in Brazil in the early days of photography. German photographers worked there, too. Pictures of African slaves in Brazil are extremely rare because these black inhabitants were only seldom captured on film. The photographs show portraits but also scenes of their everyday life in Brazil. Pictures of slaves working on sugar cane plantations, harvesting coffee or seeking gold and diamonds cast light on a dark chapter of colonisation. After its premiere in Würzburg the exhibition will be shown in the Slave Lodge in Cape Town. The exhibition is open every day except Mondays from 12th May to 3rd June 2007, in the "Spitäle", Zellerstraße 1, in Würzburg, from 11 a.m. till 6. p.m. The entrance fee is 3 euros.
