Vor dem Abschiedskonzert ihrer Großmutter wird Miriam Makebas Enkelin Zenzi Lee das 18. Africa Festival musikalisch eröffnen. Mit acht Jahren trat sie erstmals in einer Fernsehshow auf und wirkte in einem Anti-Apartheidsfilm mit. Im Alter von 13 Jahren sang sie im Background von Miriam Makeba, Dizzy Gillespie und Hugh Masekela. Danach besuchte sie die renommierte Manhattan School of Music, wo sie u. a. Gesang, Jazz, klassische Musik, Klavier und Komposition studierte. Sie wirkte auch als Schauspielerin in preisgekrönten Filmen mit. 1994 nahm sie ihre erste Single als Solokünstlerin auf, der 1999 das erste Album „Daynights“ folgte. Jetzt wird Zenzi Lee das Erbe ihrer berühmten Großmutter antreten.

Zenzi Lee, the granddaughter of Miriam Makeba, who will give her very last concert in Germany, is going to be the opening act of the 18th Africa Festival. Zenzi Lee had her first appearance in a TV show at the age of eight. She also appeared in an anti-apartheid movie. At the age of thirteen, she was one of the background singers of Miriam Makeba, Dizzy Gillespie and Hugh Masekela. Afterwards, she attended the renowned Manhattan School of Music and studied among other things, singing, jazz, classical music, piano and composition. She also acted in award-winning movies. In 1994, she recorded her first single as a solo artist. The first album, “Daynights”, was recorded in 1999. Now, Zenzi Lee follows her grandmother’s footsteps, taking over the musical heritage of the famous artist Miriam Makeba.

In diesem Jahr tritt Mama Africa von den Konzertbühnen der Welt ab. Ihr einziges Deutschland-Konzert im Rahmen ihrer Abschiedstournee wird sie auf ihren ausdrücklichen persönlichen Wunsch hin beim Africa Festival geben. Wer sie bei ihren früheren Auftritten im Zirkuszelt auf den Mainwiesen erlebt hat, weiß, dass ein unvergessliches Konzerterlebnis bevorsteht. Mit Miriam Makeba werden an diesem Abend mehrere musikalische Überraschungsgäste auf der Bühne stehen, um ihr einen würdigen Abschied zu bereiten. Für dieses Konzert am Eröffnungstag des Festivals sind nur noch wenige Karten erhältlich.

This year, Mama Africa takes her final bows on the world’s concert stages. Her farewell tour leads her to Germany only once and she personally insisted on giving her last concert in Germany at the Africa Festival. All who had the chance to attend one of her previous live concerts on the stage of the Africa Festival circus tent at Wuerzburg’s Mainwiesen knows that this will be an unforgettable event. Various supporting acts and surprise guests will be joinning Miriam Makeba on stage for a worthy farewell celebration.
